All Natural Essential Oil Face Steam
Steaming your face has endless benefits for your skin. First of all, toxins, dirt and everyday lotion that are on your face, clog your pores. This leads to pimples and break outs. The hot steam opens your pores and allows them to breathe. When your pores are opened, it is easy for face cleansers to get in and do there job.
It makes your skin feel and look tighter and healthier! Adding the peels of fresh fruits, fresh herds, or fresh flowers to the water makes it extra sweet for your skin and will make you feel alive and clean afterwards.

What to keep in mind when your steaming your face:
- Be very careful because the pot itself will be hot, so don't burn yourself.
- The ideal temperature for facial steaming is 110 degrees F (43 degrees C).
- Check the temperature of the water beforehand. Too much hot water may scald the skin (ouch!!).
- Start slowly, too much heat may break the capillaries of the skin and lead to skin sagging.
- It is not advised for broken or pimply skin though. If at all you want to experience the soothing effect of steaming, heal your skin first and then enjoy a nice warm facial steam.
- Don’t overdo with the steaming. It should be done for at most once or twice a month that too for eight to ten minutes. Excessive steaming may dry the skin and make it wrinkly.
What you'll need:
- thermometer
- 1 large pot and a lid (about 12 in. in diameter)
- 2 large towels
- 3 cups of pure, fresh water
- 1 large orange or 2 lemons or 3 handfuls of mint or 3 handfuls of fresh flowers
- timer (i used the one on my phone)
- facial cleanser
- cold water or ice pack or ice cubes
What you'll do:
- fill the pot up with the water
- peel the orange or lemons and place them in the pot, if you have mint or fresh flowers just put them in the pot
- turn the stove on to medium to low heat and put the lid on top. Keep in mind that the ideal temperature for facial steaming is 110 degrees F (43 degrees C).
- wait about 30-45 min while the herbs/flowers/peels have time to create aromatic steam
- set your timer to 8-10 minutes (the longer you stay the better it is for your skin.
- tie back your hair neatly and with the help of a thick towel, form a tent for your head as well as the bowl.
- MAKE SURE YOU ARE APPROXIMATELY 18 INCHES AWAY FROM THE WATER. While your bent over the pot, if you feel uncomfortable, you can always remove your towel for some fresh air.
- when the time is up pat your face dry. if you have black heads, you can clean get rid of them now because they are easy to clean after a face steam.
- if you used orange or lemon peels for your face steam, you can take the peels and rub them all over your skin or just on your face. The essential oils from the peels are extremely good for our skin.
- after, if you've rubbed the lemon or orange peels onto your face, let it dry for about 20 min. Then, wash your face with warm water and a facial cleanser if you have one.
- if you want, you can get a face towel and run it under very cold water and rub it onto your face, this closes your pores and feels super refreshing.
- After you're finished, dry your face. Your skin should feel tight and clean and revived!
